William Brumm (3/5/21-5/12/86) served on board the Nantahala March 18, 1945 to December 5, 1945. He was a Watertender 2nd Class. His son Dennis contributed these newsletters to our site along with the letter Bill wrote home from Japan that appears in another part of the Photo section.

There are several things about these newsletters that I find interesting. The newsletter from 6/19/45 commemorates the Nantahala's one year anniversary including an interview with Capt. Larsen. His speculation on the future of the Nantahala after the war is included as well as his prediction that the war would go on for at least another year. Little did he know that less then two months later the world would enter the nuclear age when the US dropped the first atomic bomb on Japan and the war would end shortly after. The second newsletter, published on 8/5/45, was put out the day before the first atomic bomb was dropped.

We are fortunate that Bill preserved this part of Nantahala history and owe his son Dennis a debt of gratitude for sharing it with us.
